How to Resize an Image for Social Media
Upload a photo with the "wrong" dimensions to most platforms and it gets auto-cropped — sometimes cutting off exactly the part of the image you cared about. Resizing to the platform's actual recommended size first gives you control over how your photo appears instead of leaving it to an algorithm.
Step 1 – Open the Resize Image Tool

Step 2 – Pick a Preset
Choose the preset matching where you're posting — Instagram square, Instagram Story/Reels, a YouTube thumbnail, and more are all built in. Each preset targets the exact pixel dimensions that platform recommends.
Step 3 – Choose PNG or JPG
PNG is lossless and better for graphics, logos, or screenshots with sharp edges or text. JPG produces a smaller file and usually looks just as good for ordinary photos — adjust the quality slider if you need a smaller file size.

How the Resize Actually Works
Your photo is scaled down (never up, and never cropped) so it fits entirely within the target dimensions while keeping its original proportions. If your photo's shape doesn't exactly match the target — a landscape photo going into a square slot, for example — the leftover space is padded with white rather than cropping any part of your photo away. This means the entire original image is always preserved somewhere in the output, even if that means white bars on the sides or top and bottom.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will resizing crop or stretch my photo?
No. Your photo is scaled to fit entirely within the target box, keeping its original proportions. Any leftover space is padded with white — nothing is ever cropped out or distorted.
Why does my resized image have white bars on the sides?
That happens when your photo's aspect ratio doesn't exactly match the preset you picked (for example, fitting a landscape photo into a square). It's the tradeoff for guaranteeing nothing gets cropped.
PNG or JPG — which should I pick?
