How to Rotate PDF Pages
Scanned documents often come out sideways or upside down. Pages saved from mobile apps or emails can have the wrong orientation. Rotating a PDF fixes these issues and makes the document easy to read and share.
Our free online PDF rotation tool lets you rotate all pages in a PDF by 90, 180, or 270 degrees in just a few clicks. No installation, no account required.
Step 1 – Open the Rotate PDF Tool
Navigate to our Rotate PDF tool. You'll see a file upload area where you can click to select your PDF or drag and drop it from your file manager.
Step 2 – Choose Your Rotation Angle
After uploading your file, select the rotation angle you need:
- 90° clockwise: Rotates all pages a quarter turn to the right. Use this if pages are rotated 90° to the left (text reads up the side).
- 180°: Flips all pages upside down. Use this for completely inverted documents.
- 270° clockwise (90° counter-clockwise): Rotates pages a quarter turn to the left.
Think about which direction your pages need to go. If text is running from bottom to top along the right side, you need a 90° clockwise rotation. If it's running from top to bottom on the left, you need 270°.
Step 3 – Download the Rotated PDF
After setting the rotation, the tool processes your document and produces a new PDF with all pages correctly oriented. Download the file to your device — it will open in the correct orientation in any PDF viewer.
Tips for Rotating PDFs
- Check all pages first: If only some pages are rotated incorrectly, consider splitting the PDF first, rotating just those pages, then merging everything back together.
- Scanned documents: Rotation is especially common with scanned documents. After rotating, you may want to compress the file to reduce its size.
- Before merging: If you are about to merge multiple PDFs, make sure all their pages are correctly oriented first. Fix rotations before merging.
- Landscape vs portrait: Some documents are intentionally landscape (wide). Make sure you're rotating a document that actually needs it, not one that's meant to be horizontal.
Common Reasons to Rotate a PDF
Scanned pages are sideways: Placing a document sideways in a scanner is a very common mistake. A quick 90° rotation fixes it instantly.
Mobile phone scans: Photos taken of documents on a phone often inherit the phone's orientation at capture time. Rotation corrects these.
Received documents: Sometimes files are emailed or downloaded with incorrect orientation from the sender's side. You can fix them locally without going back to the sender.
Preparing for printing: Printing a sideways document wastes paper and is unreadable. Always check orientation before printing and rotate if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rotate only specific pages, not all pages?
The current tool rotates all pages uniformly. To rotate only selected pages, use the Split PDF tool to extract those pages, rotate them separately, then merge all pages back together in the original order.
Will rotation affect the text content of my PDF?
No. Rotation is a display operation — the text, images, and all content within the PDF remain unchanged. Only the viewing orientation is modified.
Does the rotated file look the same in all PDF viewers?
Yes. The rotation is saved into the PDF file itself, so it displays correctly in Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, Edge, Preview on Mac, and any other standard PDF viewer.
Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?
You'll need to remove the password first, then rotate the pages, and optionally re-protect the file afterwards.
